Who We Are

The flower side of Jīvana Farm is the result of a backyard hobby that got out of hand. Our day jobs, although incredibly rewarding, have at times carried a lot of heaviness (Kayla is an oncology nurse and Josh was an alternative high school counselor). In the spirit of pursuing something purely for the sake of beauty and in the hopes of giving us an excuse to spend more time outside in the dirt, we used up every last planting space on our suburban property to plant 110 dahlia tubers. We were hooked!
The next year, we divided our tubers, converted a 1500 sq.ft. section of some friends’ unused garden into a cut flower garden and planted 700 dahlia tubers at Josh’s parents’ farm, 120 miles away. We dedicated every day off driving between gardens, weeding, pinching, cutting, and arranging bouquets. It was exhausting, but there's nothing quite like standing in awe amidst a dahlia field in full bloom. It birthed a dream of scaling up and starting our own flower farm. So, we did it! We sold our house and uprooted our suburban life and moved out to the farm in Mossyrock, WA, where we now cultivate a peaceful and beautiful cottage garden, have a large cut flower and dahlia field, and get to experience the best of country life in the Pacific Northwest. Jīvana Farm is home to three generations of family and an assortment of entertaining farm animals.
